Question: Can I host my site with you?
Answer: No. Web People Media does not host websites. We can, however, help you find a good combination of price and service for your hosting, and we can help you locate and obtain a suitable domain name.

Question: Does my business need to have a computer etc. to host or maintain a website?
Answer: To have a website you do not absolutely have to have a computer (though you will need computer access); the site can be hosted elsewhere, and most often for small businesses this is the prefered method. However, to receive and reply to emails (either directly, or from forms), to update your database (if you are using e-commerce, or other dynamic applications), or to make changes to web content yourself, you will benefit greatly in investing in a computer and Internet access.
Unless your company is generating a large amount of traffic on your website, there is no need to get your own server and host your site yourself. This is one of those items that you can safely assume you will know when you have reached that point. If your site generates that much traffic, you will be forced to either become Internet savvy, or spend some money on a regular basis paying for someone who is. In either case, you will know or be told that it is time to get your own server when that time comes.
You might think that if you have to get a computer anyway you should go all the way and make it a server, then host your own site and save some money on monthly hosting charges, but this is actually a bad idea unless you can afford (and your business Internet traffic warrants) at least two real servers (for redundancy in case one has to go down for maintenance or unforseen reasons) and staff to maintain them and keep them running. These computers have to be large and powerful enough to serve web pages at the high speeds and reliability that Internet users have come to expect. Many small businesses get in over their heads trying to serve their own sites. The result is disastrous for their business, because what happens is that people find their listings in the search engines, click the link, wait for about one to five minutes (depending on their level of patience and desire to see the site), then click the Back button and try another site from the list of search results. They never return to that business' site, and neither does anyone else, because it just loads too slowly.
The short message is: be prudent, and don't try to serve as your own web host until you have a real business case for the level of commitment; then make that commitment wholeheartedly and don't cut corners.
